VALDOSTA, Ga.— Attention Lowndes High Seniors!  Do you need money for college? There will be a FAFSA Workshop for you and your parent/guardian on Monday, March 9th from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm in the Lowndes High School Media Center. Refreshments will be served.  The workshop is designed to help you fill out the FAFSA, which is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.  Be sure to bring your 2018 tax returns to the workshop. FAFSA Completion Checklist For 2020 – 2021 FAFSA
(Enrollment July 1, 2020 – June 30, 2021)

What to bring to FAFSA Completion Event:

  1. Student’s Social Security Number (can be found on Social Security card).
  2. Parents and/or Step-Parent’s Information:
    1. Parents and/or Step-Parent’s Social Security Number
    2. Parents and/or Step-Parent’s Dates of Birth
    3. Parents and/or Step-Parent’s marital status and date of marital status
  3. Student’s FSA ID. Go to https:fsaid.ed.gov to create FSA ID. Make sure to use a different email address than parent. The FSA ID is how you will electronically sign your FAFSA form.
  4. Parent FSA ID if dependent. Go to https:fsaid.ed.gov to create parent FSA ID. Make sure to use a different email address than student. The FSA ID is how you will electronically sign your student’s FAFSA form.
  5. Student’s driver’s license (if any)
  6. If student is not a US Citizen, student’s documentation that states student is a U.S. permanent resident or other eligible non-citizen.
  7. Student’s 2018 federal tax return (may be retrieved electronically in the FAFSA using the Data Retrieval Tool; however, bring a copy just in case.)
  8. Student’s 2018 W-2 Forms
  9. Parents and/or Step-Parent’s 2018 federal tax return (may be retrieved elec tronically in the FAFSA using the Data Retrieval Tool; however, bring a copy just in case.)
  10. Parents and/or Step-Parent’s 2018 W-2 Forms.
  11. If student or Parents and/or Step-Parent were not required to file a federal
    tax return, other records of money earned.
  12. You will also need to provide the following information in the FAFSA form
    for the Student, and Parents and/or Step-Parent:
    1. Balance in cash, checking, or savings accounts
    2. Amount of assets (do not include value of family home or family farm) (if applicable)
    3. Value of business (if applicable)

After you have created your student FSA ID, you may begin completing the FAFSA at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Be sure to sign in using the student FSA ID.
