Valdosta-Miracle-LeagueVALDOSTA, GA – The Miracle League of Valdosta is kicking off their grand opening season this May in Valdosta, Ga.

The Miracle League of Valdosta is a community-based sports program for children and adults with all types of mental and physical disabilities. The league’s mission is to bring people of various abilities together in order to discover their common ground and find joy in serving others. The Miracle League of Valdosta would like to provide every child and adult of mental or physical handicap the opportunity to play baseball and other activities.

The Miracle League Field, which is set to begin construction this year, will be located at Freedom Park. The facilities are designed to certain specifications, including paving and installation of rubber turf.  In addition, for safety assurance, the field must be entirely accessible, including dugouts, a pavilion, bathrooms, and enclosures. The field’s dimensions match those of a regular, youth-size baseball field.

The Valdosta league has garnered support from the Valdosta-Lowndes Parks & Recreation for the donation of land and Richard Hill & Associates, P.C. for the design of the new facilities.

Each child and adult are given an opportunity to hit the ball and to score a run during each inning. Miracle League team members are assigned buddies who assist them in hitting the ball and “running” the bases. Buddies can be anyone who wishes to volunteer their time to give a child the gift of baseball.

We cannot change or cure the medical issues life has dealt people with disabilities.  What we can do is provide them with an opportunity to experience the joy and benefits that come from playing our national pastime—baseball.  Come be a part of the Miracle League of Valdosta as “We Provide the Opportunity, the Miracle is what happens on the Field”!
