Georgia Proposal Could Make Getting an Abortion Easier

ATLANTA, Ga. — State Representative Dar’shun Kendrick takes aim at the “Women’s Right to Know Act,” by proposing a legislation that would make obtaining an abortion an easier process, according to AJC.

Under the current Women’s Right to Know Act, those who wish to undergo the procedure must first get an ultrasound, receive state-approved information and then wait 24 hours after the counseling to have this procedure done. Kendrick says that these requirements are designed to delay the process and her bill will allow women to bypass them all together.

House Bill 746 comes in response to last year’s passing of House Bill 481, which outlawed most abortions once a “heartbeat” beat is detected — usually around six weeks and before many women know that they are pregnant.

It is unlikely that Kendrick’s bill will be passed because legislative leadership does not intend to consider any abortion legislation while House Bill 481 is being debated in court.
