Concerns over being cited for violation of the city’s tree ordinance and tree pruning has led to city leadership to make some changes in just how the ordinance is enforced. Business owners will now be given an initial warning but the warning could be followed by a hefty fine. The new ordinance applies to business owners and not to residential properties. A Crep Myrtle tree not properly pruned could initiate fines that start at $250.00.

Jeff Davis County law enforcement officials report that a methamphetamine drug bust has taken place. Nearly 31 pounds of the highly addictive and sometimes deadly drug with a street value of more than one million dollars has been confiscated. The multi-unit investigation brought about the arrest of Francisco Valencia of Hazelhurst on multiple charges and a warrant has been issued for fugitive Jesus Valencia; more arrests are expected.

The deadline to register to vote in the General Primary Election, Nonpartisan General Election and Special Runoff Election is April 26th. Those elections will take place May 24th and July 26th with the General Election coming on November 8th with a registration deadline of October 11th. Runoff Elections for local and state offices will take place December 6th with the runoff date for federal offices on January 10th.

Agricultural producers in Colquitt County are proud to be a part of the state’s multi-billion dollar ag-industry. According to official numbers   vegetable growers alone add 155 million dollars to Georgia’s economy; that’s part of a total of over 14 billion dollars in Agricultural production revenue. A special Chamber of Commerce program-A Taste of Colquitt County gave attendees a chance to see and taste the locally grown products that are factors in national market places.

Hundreds of middle and high school students were hosted by eight different school systems during the Get Wired for Allied Health Expo at Wiregrass Technical College. It gave the students the opportunity to get an up-close look and hands-on feel for areas of career interests. Wiregrass offers 12 different programs in the health field.
