TALLAHASSEE — A Tallahassee man is accused of kidnapping his ex-girlfriend, beating and strangling her, and leaving her blacked out on the ground.
Dwayne Copeland was arrested Thursday.
Police say Copeland forced his ex-girlfriend into her car in the parking lot of the West Tennessee Street Walmart around midnight Tuesday.
Copeland threatened to kill the victim if she screamed and forced her to drive to Capital Circle Southwest, according to TPD.
Police say Copeland beat the woman as she drove. When she tried to escape on Lake Bradford Rd., Copeland pulled her hair, strangled her outside of the vehicle until she blacked out, and left her blacked out on the ground, according to court documents.
Officers say the victim was able to later drive herself to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital to seek treatment.
Court documents indicate that Copeland was sentenced to probation in May for violating an injunction for protection against domestic violence against the victim.
Police say Copeland is charged with burglary of a conveyance with a person assaulted, kidnapping with the intent to terrorize/inflict bodily harm, felony battery by strangulation and violating an injunction for protection against domestic violence.
