ATLANTA — The specialty license plate featuring the Sons of Confederate Veterans symbol will remain available for Georgia car owners.
The new license plate will feature the symbol, which contains the controversial Confederate Battle Flag as part of its design, though the tags will not contain a sublimated full flag as a background, which was included in an earlier design.
Sale of the tag was halted after the Charleston church shooting aftermath related to the flag appearing in a photo with the shooter.
A report in the Atlanta Journal Constitution stated a state revenue spokesman noted the tags would again be available next week for purchase.
Georgia Governor Nathan Deal had ordered a redesign of the tag in June, but stopped short of totally phasing the tags out. Other states have made such moves, including North Carolina, Virginia, and Tennessee.
