JACKSONVILLE — A 50-year-old Jacksonville woman, and experienced diver, drowned while cleaning her backyard swimming pool last week.
In an interview with the Florida Times-Union, the victim’s husband, Steve Cox, noted his wife Angela was alone while vacuuming the pool last Thursday.
Later in the day, their 15-year-old daughter, who had been watching television inside, found her mother at the bottom of the pool, the victim of an apparent drowning.
Surprisingly, Cox told the Florida Times-Union his wife was an avid scuba diver. He says his wife recently participated in 30 dives over a two-week trip to the Florida Keys. However, to clean the pool, she wasn’t wearing any diving gear. The couple cleans the pool once a week.
Cox says the couple would often stay at the bottom of the 9-foot deep end without oxygen to increase their lung capacity for future dives.
The Cox’s 13-year-old son started CPR on his mother but was unable to revive her.
