SAVANNAH — Senator Ted Cruz arrived in Georgia last week on the heels of the Red State Gathering. Congressman Jack Kingston and his son Jim helped arrange a stop at Savannah, Georgia at the Coastal Georgia Center as Cruz embarked on a seven-day tour of the South.
“Georgia is going to play a very important role in this Presidential election. Georgia and Texas is going to vote together on the same day in SEC Primary,” Cruz said to a standing-room-only-crowd.
On the subject of the SEC Primary, Cruz said that there were many things that he certainly could agree with but Texas football was sacred.
In three months, the 44 year-old Texas Senator has raised 14.3 million dollars (which is 3 million more than what Jeb Bush had raised).
“If you told me… That I was going to be able to raise more money than Jeb Bush six months ago, I would have thought we were both bat house crazy,” Cruz said. “Over 175,000 people have contributed an average of $68.00 because they realize that they can make a difference.”
Certainly, he did address Donald Trump and the Thursday night debate.
“When we went to commercial break, I asked Donald, since he had given all this money to all of these politicians, that he could go ahead and write me a check right then,” Cruz said.
He thanked fellow Senator Charles Schumer (D-NY) for taking a stand against the Iran Nuclear Deal and warned of the United States making that decision because it will continue to increase the radical Islam.
“Radical Islam is a real threat, and we have a President that does not want to call it what it is, Cruz said. “I don’t think it was a bunch of Presbyterians flying planes into the buildings on 9/11.”
Cruz also found a very creative way to deal with the broken IRS and our ever-increasing immigration problems.
“I am saying this partly for our friends in the media, but we should pad lock the IRS building in Washington DC and send those 90,000 employees to the border,” Cruz said. “Now imagine if the first sight you saw as an illegal immigrant after crossing the Rio Grande was all of these IRS agents; you would go right back to the country you were coming from.”
