JACKSONVILLE — Authorities often warn motorists to not attempt to drive around railroad crossing arms. The reason why was made clear Monday in Jacksonville.

One woman is now confirmed dead when an Amtrak crashed into her vehicle as she attempted to drive around the crossing arms, according to reports from WJXT and the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.
The train, which was bound for New York out of Miami, reportedly struck the car about 4:45 Monday afternoon. A source aboard the train told WJXT that the train was attempting to slow down before it struck the vehicle.
