MACON — The day after the grand reopening of Amerson River Park, an Atlanta man was reported missing after being separated from friends.

Seth Greene, 21, said he missed the take out point south of the canoe launch at the park and continued floating down stream.

His friends reported him missing at about 4 p.m. and Macon-Bibb County firefighters launched a rescue boat from the Spring Street landing.

Bibb County deputies got out on the banks near the downtown riverwalk and started looking for Greene, who was floating on a silver and white tube.

Sgt. Scott Chapman borrowed a kayak at the park and started heading downstream, asking others on the river if they had spotted Greene.

Just before 5 p.m., Greene, who didn’t have his cell phone, was found on the bank near the Interstate 16 bridge.

“I just missed getting out when they did,” Greene said.

He was reunited with his friends at the Spring Street landing shortly before 5 p.m.

“He’s not from around here,” one of his friends said.

Authorities urge everyone to familiarize themselves with the river exit points before getting in the water.
