LA GRANGE — A 7-year-old boy was shot in the back Sunday morning in LaGrange. and has been flown to an Atlanta hospital for treatment.

According to a police report, what is being called an accidental shooting, took place at an apartment on Revis Street at approximately 9:21 a.m.

Police say the boy was one of three under the age of 10 who were playing in a room and found a loaded handgun. While handling the weapon, one of the children shot the victim.

The mother, grandmother and grandfather of the children were in another room.

Upon arrival, police officers located the victim with a single gunshot wound and they provided emergency medical aid until paramedics arrived.

The condition of the victim is not known at this time.

The case remains under investigation and no criminal charges have been filed.
