CLEARWATER — Attorneys for three lawyers accused by the Florida Bar of tricking a rival lawyer into getting a DUI in an attempt to derail a defamation case have rested and a judge could decide the case soon.
The legal ethics trial before Judge W. Douglas Baird pits the Florida Bar, which supports the version of events told by lawyer Phil Campbell, against three well-known Tampa lawyers.
Campbell was charged with DUI two years ago. The Bar alleges that attorneys Stephen Diaco, Robert Adams and Adam Filthaut set Campbell up and used a paralegal and a Tampa police officer to help. They could be sanctioned or disbarred if found guilty.
On Thursday, the defense rested and Baird asked for written closing arguments.
