SAVANNAH – Expecting a package or hoping for a package in the mail?

It may be time for another warning about that old IRS Scam after three calls and messages on Wednesday alone. And if you got a delivery notice in the mail and it doesn’t say UPS or USPS on it, be careful.

In a report on WTOC, Savannah viewer Chastity Crabb described receiving a delivery notice claiming to be a gift card. Her husband was home all day and didn’t hear anything, and the phone number voice mail is full.

The scam is called a delivery dupe: fake delivery notices asking you to call a number in order to receive a package. On the other end crooks will pose as real companies, usually badly, trying to collect your sensitive information.

Delivery giants like FedEx and UPS don’t need this info, so do not disclose your private info to receive a delivery.

Three WTOC viewers on Wednesday, including 75 year-old Mary Widener and Anne Westgate, received similar IRS scam calls claiming money was owed and the caller will be thrown in jail if you don’t pay over the phone.

Remember, it’s simple. The IRS will not ever call you.
