DUBLIN — A Dublin middle school teacher who made negative comments about President Barack Obama to her class has been removed from the classroom and will retire at the end of the year.
Superintendent Chuck Ledbetter stated in a release issued Monday evening as reported in the Macon Telegraph. The teacher, Nancy Perry, allegedly asserted to the class than anyone who supported Obama was not a Christian.
“It is not the place of teachers to attempt to persuade students about religious or political beliefs,” Ledbetter said in the release. “In doing so, the teacher was wrong, and that has been communicated to her.”
The superintendent also stated training will be conducted on that policy throughout the entire school system.
When parents of a student sought a conference with Perry to discuss her comments, her husband, school board member Bill Perry was there. The Telegraph reported that Ledbetter said in the release that should not have happened and apologized for Bill Perry’s actions.
