ATHENS — A University of Georgia employee was stabbed on the Athens campus early Wednesday morning.

Reports from the Athens Banner Herald report an employee of the university was stabbed in the hand during an encounter with three college-age white males.  The incident occurred near Brooks Hall on Herty Drive early Wednesday morning.

Police learned of the assault after spotting the victim as a passenger in a speeding vehicle on Prince Avenue.  The officer finally caught up with the victim and the vehicle’s driver at the Emergency Room entrance to Athens Regional Medical Center.

The victim was treated and released.

He stated in the report that as he walked from downtown with another person, three suspects approached him.  After stabbing the victim with what appeared to be a small pocket knife, police reported the suspect ran in the direction of downtown Athens.  The victim was not able to accurately describe the attackers to police.

Police reported they saw no need for concern as a result of the attack.
