ATLANTA – Site of one of the nation’s largest St. Patrick’s Day parades, and even larger party, Savannah has enjoyed the financial benefits the event has provided over the years.

However, when the special day falls on a Sunday, it tended to create issues for businesses involved in supporting the event.  That may soon change.

The state Senate voted 32-19 Thursday to allow Savannah bars to sell alcohol on Sunday afternoon during the week of St. Patrick’s Day without the food sales requirement.

Since the bill has passed both the House and Senate, all that remains is a compromise bill for passage.
