MACON — A Macon firefighter was killed doing his job Wednesday as he fell through a floor in a burning home.
Five other firefighters were also injured as a result of the house fire.
Lt. Randy Parker, 46 of Macon, was killed when he, and several other firefighters, fell through the floor of a burning Macon home into the basement.
According to various news reports, the injured firefighters included Battalion Chief Steven Stafford, 59, and firefighters Adam Mitchie, 34, and Ferrell Cromer, 46. They were transported to the Burn Center in Augusta. They were being treated for smoke inhalation and burns to their hands.
Two other firefighters, Matt Couey, 27, and Ben Bollinger, 28, were listed in stable condition after being transported to the Medical Center in Macon for treatment.
The homeowners escaped the fire without injury.
The incident has been a heavy loss to the entire department.
