ATLANTA — A bill to allow the use of cannabis oil in Georgia to treat certain medical conditions may be gaining ground.

A bill introduced by Republican House member Allen Peake of Macon has passed the House Judiciary Non-Civil Committee and will move on to the Rules Committee next.

Peake’s bill would allow the use of the marijuana derivative to treat seizure disorders, Lou Gehrig’s Disease and six other debilitating health problems.

Peake expects modification once the bill reaches the Senate, but he believes it will become law.  Governor Nathan Deal has already stated support for the bill.  Supporters say the cannabis oil could help as many as 500,000 sufferers of conditions such as cancer, multiple sclerosis, fibromyalgia, Parkinson’s disease, mitochondrial disease and Crohn’s Disease.
