ATLANTA — A Georgia House bill establishing a minimum age of 5 to enter Kindergarten has passed the House and will move on to the Senate for a vote.

Thursday the House approved the bill, which requires children to be 5 years old by August 1 to enroll in the 2017-18 school year and by July 1 for the 2018-19 year.

The controversial bill created debate during the committee process when opponents stated it could force daycare centers and schools to juggle staffing unnecessarily.  Proponents state the bill ensures a proper maturity when entering formal school.
