GAINESVILLE — A man faces DUI manslaughter charges after confirmation from detectives that his blood alcohol level was over twice the legal limit when he crashed his car, killing his teenaged daughter and her friend.

Jeffrey Lee Ertle, 40 of Gainesville, was arrested Thursday related to the crash.  Reports state Ertle was traveling to a convenience store for cigarettes when he veered his vehicle into the path of an oncoming SUV.  He was travelling with his 13-year old daughter, Ashley Ertle, and her 15-year old friend, Emily Cook.

Police reports state that both girls died at the scene.  Ertle spent two weeks in the hospital recovering from injuries.

The daughter was living with Ertle’s estranged wife in Chiefland and was in Gainesville visiting her father.
