WAYCROSS — Two people died over the weekend in separate Southeast Georgia accidents, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

Marlyon Steedly, 44 of Manor, was killed with the Jeep Grand Cherokee he was driving ran off the road west of Waycross.

He left the road at a curve and struck a fence several time, even at one point becoming airborne.  A piece of the wooden fence penetrated the vehicle and struck Steedly under his right arm, according to the GSP report.  He was transported to the Mayo Clinic of Waycross and pronounced dead.

The second of the two accidents involved Shirley Howard, 67 of Nahunta.  The Nissan Altima she was driving crossed the center line, left the roadway and struck a road sign and several small trees.  Reports state her vehicle traveled more than 100 feet in the ditch before striking the objects and coming to a halt.

She was transported to the Mayo Clinic of Waycross and pronounced dead.  The GSP reported that Howard was not wearing a seat belt.

Neither of the accidents involved passengers or other vehicles.
