ATLANTA — The rotunda of the state Capitol was filled to capacity Tuesday afternoon as Georgians came to rally in support of former Atlanta Fire Chief Kelvin Cochran.
Cochran was fired by Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed one week ago following comments he made concerning homosexuality in Who Told You You Were Naked, a book he authored last year.
Organizers of the rally included The Family Research Council, Georgia Baptist Convention and Billy & Franklin Graham.
A long list of speakers including Tony Perkins, Dr. Alveda King, neice of Dr. Martin Luther King and Dr. J. Robert White, Executive Director of the Georgia Baptist Convention, spoke to the crowd.
Once completing their speeches, the supporters marched to Atlanta City Hall to deliver a petition of over 40,000 signatures asking the mayor to reinstate Cochran as the city’s Fire Chief.
