ATLANTA SCHOOLS CHEATING SCANDAL

It took weeks, but the jury was seated last week in the Atlanta Public Schools cheating scandal trial. Opening statements are this morning. The trial is expected to last months. 12 teachers and administrators are accused of changing answers on the CRCT back in 2009. Former superintendant Beverly Hall is NOT being tried as she continues to fight breast cancer.

CHEROKEE COUNTY FATHER RUNS OVER SON WITH MOWER

A 5-year-old boy was badly injured last evening in Cherokee County when his father ran over him with a riding mower. Police say the man was backing up when the child stepped into his path. The boy suffered severe cuts.

ALPHARETTA DAYCARE OWNER INDICTED

The Fulton County District Attorney’s Office indicted a former Alpharetta daycare owner this week. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports Janna Thompson was indicted on second degree murder and child cruelty charges. A three-year-old boy died from asphyxiation in July following a choking incident at her in-home daycare. Thompson’s state license to run the daycare facility was also suspended following the death of the child.

JONESBORO WOMAN SENTANCED FOR TAX FRAUD

A Jonesboro woman has received a four year prison sentence for tax fraud. Anita Ford has previously pleaded guillty to using her company, the Georgia Peach Financial & Fast Tax Service, to prepare fraudulent tax returns from 2004 to 2012. The scheme earned nearly seven-million-dollars in that period.
