GEORGIA UNEMPLOYMENT

The argument continues over why the state’s unemployment rate stands at 8.1 percent right now…the worst in the nation. State Labor Commissioner Mark Butler says he’s going through data from other states, and Georgia’s not alone in seeing big jumps in the unemployment number.  He says it’s happening in Georgia despite the fact that Georgia is number 6 in the nation for job growth.

SOLDIER GUILTY OF MURDERING DAUGHTER

A Ft Stewart soldier has been found guilty of murdering his three year old daughter. A Liberty County judge sentenced Torres Boles to life plus 30 years. the little girl was beaten to death in February of last year

GEORGIA SUPREME COURT RULES AGAINST DEKALB PRINCIPAL

A former DeKalb County elementary school principal has lost her case before the Georgia Supreme Court. Yvonne Butler lost her job in part because she used school funds to purchase books she had written from a company that she owned. She was fired for good and sufficient cause. The high court ruled the former head of Browns Mill Elementary is not entitled to a hearing under Georgia’s Fair Dismissal Act.

CHEROKEE COUNTY MAN GUILTY OF EXTORTING TEEN GIRLS

A Cherokee County man pleads guilty in federal court to extorting explicit photographs out of teenage girls. 23 year old Destin Whitmore pleaded guilty to child pornography and extortion charges. They say he was contacting his victims over the internet.
