VALDOSTA— On Monday, January 27, 2020, the Valdosta Fire Department responded to the report of a structure fire at 608 McDougal St. The call was received from dispatch at 08:03 P.M.

The first fire unit arrived within five minutes and reported smoke and flames coming from the roof.  Fire crews quickly extinguished the fire.

The occupant noticed flames in the ceiling and was out of the house prior to the fire department’s arrival. The cause of the fire was determined to be the use of nonfunctional fireplace. There were no injuries reported. One occupant was displaced. There was a total of 16 VFD Personnel on scene.
