VALDOSTA – The Valdosta Police Department recently responded to a 58-year-old bicyclist that was struck by a vehicle on West Hill Avenue.

Release:

On April 29, 2024, at approximately 4:25 pm., Valdosta Police Officers, Valdosta Fire Fighters, and Emergency Medical Services Personnel responded to the 1400 block of West Hill Avenue after E911 received several emergency calls about a bicyclist being struck by a vehicle.  Upon arrival at the scene, first responders found the bicyclist, a 58-year-old male, unresponsive.  He was transported by EMS to South Georgia Medical Center.

Through investigation, members of the Valdosta Police Department Traffic Unit determined that the bicyclist was traveling west in the 1400 block of West Hill Avenue, along with a Chevrolet Tahoe.  The bicyclist abruptly turned in front of the Tahoe, ultimately striking the front of the vehicle.  Officers found that the bicyclist appeared to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.

The bicyclist is in stable condition and charges are pending against him.

There were no injuries reported in the Tahoe.

The case is still under investigation.
