VALDOSTA, Ga. – Worried citizens, shop owners, parents and residents in Valdosta today were desperate to find out why there was an increase law enforcement presence, complete with a BearCat armored vehicle and officers in bulletproof vests were hearing three people had been killed.

Social media posts scrambled to find information.

In the early afternoon of September 25, 2019, the Valdosta Police Department and Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office were called to a location near the corner of St. Augustine Road and West Hill Avenue where a man was threatening to commit suicide.

According to Sheriff Ashley Paulk, the as yet unidentified man, surrendered and is in custody following a standoff.

Armored vehicles were on scene, “to make sure we didn’t get shot,” Sheriff Paulk said. There was a heavy law enforcement presence in the area at the time.

Sheriff Paulk said that the issue had been resolved with no injuries and that it was being handled by the Valdosta Police Department.

More details will be provided as received.
