VALDOSTA, GA – The City of Valdosta will host a one-day training workshop on the federal Section 106 process of the National Historic Preservation Act, on Thursday, June 5, in the Valdosta City Hall Annex Multi-Purpose Room, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Each year, thousands of construction projects affect historic properties in Georgia. Many of these projects are funded by, or require permits or licenses from, government agencies. The vast majority of projects undertaken in Georgia must comply with Section 106 of the National Preservation Act. This workshop is designed to explain the national and Georgia perspectives on the Section 106 process.

The training is sponsored by a federal Historic Preservation Fund grant, the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation, the National Park Service, the U.S. Department of the Interior, and the City of Valdosta. Representatives from the Federal Advisory Council on Historic Preservation and the National Park Service will be on site to facilitate the training workshop.

The training is open to Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) members, preservation planners and non-profit staff, environmental and historical consultants, local government officials, Historical Society members, Main Street staff and anyone interested in learning more about Section 106 and the Certified Local Government program.
