VALDOSTA, GA – Mayor John Gayle and City Engineer Pat Collins honored Scott Nobles as the April Employee of the Month at the April 10 City Council meeting.  Nobles received a framed certificate, a check for $200 and his name appears on a plaque that is displayed inside of City Hall.

Nobles began his employment with the City of Valdosta Utilities Department in October 1995 as a utility service worker. Over the years, Scott was promoted to his current role as supervisor in the city’s Stormwater Division, which is now housed in the Engineering Department.  As the supervisor, Nobles assigns tasks and oversees all activities involving maintenance and drainage crews in performing preventative and emergency maintenance, installing and maintaining storm drains, drainage ditches, canals and other stormwater facilities.  Nobles also maintains records, such as personnel timesheets, material inventory and usage, and work orders.

The division’s largest challenges are manpower and equipment.  However, Nobles is a dependable and capable supervisor, and he has initiated ways to keep the work crews moving forward and continuously improving.

Earlier this year, a citizen was having problems with sediment buildup and standing water in the driveway.  While at the resident’s house, he attempted to find an equipment operator to help correct the problem; however, all workers were assigned to other jobs at that time.  Nobles proceeded to walk a couple of blocks to the Utilities Department yard, returning to the resident’s house with a tractor to complete the job and correct the problems himself.  This incident is a perfect example of Nobles’ resourcefulness, initiative and good relations with the citizens of Valdosta.

The City of Valdosta congratulates Scott Nobles for going above and beyond the call of duty and for being selected as the 2014 April Employee of the Month.
