Lanier-County-Elementary-St.-judesLANIER COUNTY, GA – Lanier County Elementary School participated in St. Jude’s Math-A-Thon in February. This is an education-based fundraising program that teaches kids the importance of math while helping children with cancer and other deadly diseases.

The fundraiser began with a “Kiss Cancer Goodnight” promotion where students donated $1.00 to wear their pajamas to school. This promotional event raised $145.05 for the St. Jude’s Research Hospital and students who participated were given Hershey’s kisses.

Thirteen students pledged to complete math problems in the Math-A-Thon Funbook. These Funbooks, developed by Scholastic, meet each grade level’s math curriculum as well as help students practice and prepare for standardized testing. Together, these thirteen participants exceeded the school goal of $500.00 by raising $629.00.

The top three students were Emily Ann Livingston and Cason Noah Register from Mrs. Faircloth’s third grade class and Haley King from Mrs. Smith’s fifth grade class. Together these three students raised half of the $629.00, and with the St. Jude’s “Kiss Cancer Goodnight” promotion, Lanier County Elementary school raised a total of $774. 05.
