Voters in Hamilton County will be heading to the polls today for a special election. The ballots cast today will determine if a .25 millage levy will go through to benefit the county school system.
School officials say the county system is operating with a near half-million dollar deficit- the millage is expected to cut that debt in half. While it would not be a new tax, it would extend the current millage that has been in place since 2009.
Residents seem to be fairly split on the issue, with some taking the ‘no-tax’ mindset, while others say it is necessary for local public education.
Polls will be open countywide from 7a-7p.
