VSU Golf Tied for 10th at Bobcat Invitational

VSU-Golf-3 EATONTON, GA -Valdosta State shot a first round 313 to tie for 10th after the first day of play at a cold and rainy Bobcat Invitational at the par 70, 6,847 yard Lake Oconee Golf Club Monday.

The first day of play, and the tournament, was cut short by 18 holes due to the adverse weather conditions that slowed play throughout Monday’s round. The Blazers finished the round at 33 strokes over par, 14 strokes behind leader Clayton State, which was the only team to shoot under 300 at 299.

Nova Southeastern and Armstrong Atlantic tied for second at 303 while USC-Aiken was a stroke back in fourth. Lynn finished the day fifth at 307 while UNC-Pembroke shot a 309 to stand sixth. Florida Southern and Barry each shot 310 to tie for seven followed by Columbus State at 311.

Lander matched VSU with a 313 and North Alabama was a stroke behind while host Georgia College shot a 315 and West Florida a 316. Carson-Newman finished the day at 317 while Georgia Southwestern and Rollins each shot 320 to round out the field.

Only 13 of the 93 individuals that played on the day finished within five strokes of par, led by Clayton State’s Fredrick Lindblom with a one-under 69. For the Blazers, Alex Jones tied for 14th with a five-over 75 while Florian SchmiedelMichael Nutter and Austin McNeill all tied for 42nd at 79. John Fordham tied for 87th at 87 while Mitch Lomis, playing as an individual, shot an 89 to tie for 90th.
