At the request of the Glynn County Schools Police Department, GBI agents are investigating the in-custody death of Isaias Gomez Pena, age 38, of Brunswick, GA.

Preliminary information indicates on Monday, May 21, 2024, a Glynn County School Resource Officer (SRO) was made aware of a distressed person on South Port Parkway. The SRO responded and found Pena on the scene.  There was an interaction between the SRO and Pena which led to additional law enforcement officers responding to assist the initial SRO.  During the incident, officers noticed that Pena was experiencing some sort of medical emergency, and they called EMS. The EMTs treated Pena, and he was taken to Southeast Medical Hospital where he later died.   A GBI Medical Examiner will perform an autopsy.
