Georgia Maintains Highest Score in 2020 Digital States Survey

Georgia maintained an A grade, the highest ranking possible, in the 2020 Digital States Survey. In addition, Georgia was among the nation’s top three states in the survey’s Leadership category.
Conducted every two years by the Center for Digital Government, the survey assesses states’ use of digital technologies to improve service delivery, increase capacity, and reach policy goals. Georgia also earned an A in the 2018 survey, up from an A- in 2016 and 2014. Georgia is one of only five states achieving an overall grade of A in the 2020 survey.
“Earning an A grade once again reaffirms Georgia’s leadership in using technology to serve citizens and streamline operations,” said Calvin Rhodes, state chief information officer and executive director of the Georgia Technology Authority. “This achievement was made possible by the commitment and expertise of technology professionals throughout state government.”
According to the Digital States Survey criteria, states in the A range demonstrate very strong innovation and high performing solutions with verifiable impacts across all categories, with excellent practices applied in all aspects of their operations, governance, and administration.
“I am incredibly impressed with the CIOs and with their staffs,” said Teri Takai, executive director of the Center for Digital Government. “They did what it took to get their states to remote work, to stand up to citizen services. They cut down some of the bureaucratic barriers that had plagued government. They tried things that they had not tried before, and they were successful in making those moves.”
The leadership category recognizes the state’s technology strategy for consistency and support of the Governor’s priorities and the actions taken to improve working relationships, planning, policies, and coordination with agencies.
