JACKSONVILLE, Fl. – A 13-month-old boy was found unresponsive following a nap at Happy Acre Ranch Daycare on November 16, according to WTSP.

The sheriff’s office reported that the boy was under medical measurements and was put down for a nap at around 12:30 p.m., and at around 2:30 p.m. he was found unresponsive.

The cause of his death was acute and chronic gastroenteritis, commonly known as the stomach flu, according to the medical examiner. Each year, gastroenteritis is responsible for about 3 to 5 million doctor visits, 200,000 hospital admissions, and several hundred deaths in the United States.

Signs of the stomach flu in toddler are:

• A fever of 102 F (38.9 C) or higher
• Seems lethargic or very irritable
• Is in a lot of discomfort or pain
• Has bloody diarrhea
• Seems dehydrated — watch for signs of dehydration in sick infants and children by comparing how much they drink and urinate with how much is normal for them
