LANIER CO., Ga. – Just before 10 p.m. on Saturday night, November 30, 2019, Lanier County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a shooting incident on Highway 168 near River Road in Lanier County. Upon arrival, they spoke with several people at the residence who explained that an altercation had occurred in the roadway in front of the house between two people who were related by marriage and that one of the men had been shot.

Interviews indicated that one of the men had been increasingly agitated while attending a birthday party at the residence and was eventually told to leave the home. A short while later, while the homeowner and others were in the driveway near the highway, the highly agitated man returned and became aggressive and at some point, allegedly brandished a knife, struck a family member and moved toward a person who had armed themselves with a handgun. As the man approached, a single round was fired from the pistol and the man collapsed. The other man, who had fired the shot, immediately placed the person who had been shot in his vehicle and began driving to take him to the hospital emergency room. As he drove, he contacted 911 and an ambulance was sent toward him and as the vehicle entered the city limits on Highway 135 the EMS unit met it and the man who had been shot was transferred to the EMS vehicle and transported to the emergency room. A short while later the coroner was summoned and declared the man who had been shot to be deceased.

Deputies and Investigators worked the incident throughout the night on Saturday night/ Sunday morning and throughout the day on Sunday and Monday in an attempt to interview those present and confirm the accounts they had received from each. Evidence, to include a 9mm semi-automatic pistol and a knife were recovered as evidence in the case. The investigation is classified as “ongoing” and additional details are unavailable at this time.

The deceased, 25-year-old Ty Aaron Moody was a resident of Rowe Road in Lanier County, Georgia.
