ATLANTA, Ga. – Since the closing of Atlanta’s well-known homeless shelter, Peachtree-Pine, in August 2017 there have been 18 hypothermia related deaths amongst the homeless population, according to AJC.

When being compared to the 10 years before the closing of Peachtree-Pine, the numbers more than tripled from the yearly average of four deaths.

The average age of the 18 deaths is 59, which is on-trend with the national average. That number is expected to increase in the coming years as the Boomer population ages.

Atlanta City Council has grown increasingly concerned about the issue and are looking into solutions that can provide services to the homeless population as winter approaches.
