VALDOSTA, Ga. – Entering Thanksgiving week, consumers will have to negotiate a recall on Romaine lettuce due to E.coli reports from the CDC last week.

Also, if you’re opting for the healthier options at fast food outlets like Wendy’s, think again. Two customers in Valdosta were told they were not able to provide salad orders on Monday due to the lettuce recalls issued.

The recalls began last Thursday, November 21, when a New Jersey company, Missa Bay, issued the voluntary recall, worried that romaine lettuce may be contaminated with the bacteria following an investigation by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The CDC reported 17 people were infected with E. coli in eight states but no deaths had been reported.

Then on Friday, more than 75,000 pounds of packaged salad was recalled following an E-Coli breakout that affected 77 people, two of whom developed kidney failure.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention advised consumers not to eat, and retailers not to sell, lettuce harvested in the California region of Salinas.

A total of 40 people from 16 states (Georgia is not one of them), have been infected with the outbreak strain of E. coli O157:H7. A list of the states and the number of cases in each can be found on the Map of Reported Cases page.
