COLUMBUS, Ga. – Former Georgia police sergeant William Talley has been indicted on murder charges in the fatal shooting of a paramedic with whom he was having an affair, according to WJCL.

Talley is facing charges of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and violating his oath as a public officer after he shot and killed Kelly Levinsohn. Talley’s wife, who was aware of the affair, called the authorities after Talley wrecked in Harris County.

Talley is currently being held on $1 million bail, his attorney, Jennifer Curry, is asking for the judge to reduce it. His next court hearing is set for December 10.

Assistant District Attorney Robin King says that because Talley is suicidal and trained as an Army Ranger, sniper and police SWAT team member, he is a danger both to himself and to the public. Curry argues that Talley needs mental health treatment that jail cannot provide.
