WILCOX CO., Ga. – A Wilcox County Sheriff’s deputy was arrested Wednesday, November 20 after allegedly buying drugs while off duty, according to the Wilcox County Sheriff’s Office.

Wilcox County Sheriff Robert Rodgers said in a press release that Deputy James Carlile was taken into custody around 4:30 p.m. and charged with three felony counts of conspiracy to purchase narcotics, use of a communication device to facilitate a drug transaction, and violation of oath of office.

According to the Wilcox County Sheriff’s Office, a drug investigator became aware of the deputy’s illegal activity while investigating a separate case.

“Drug use will not be tolerated by any citizens but our law enforcement officers will be held to higher standards,” Sheriff Rodgers said in the release. “The sheriff, deputies, and staff should be an example to the citizens of our community and any criminal activity will not be tolerated.”

Carlile is in the county jail located in Abbeville.
