ATLANTA, Ga. – There has been a notable surge in Georgia voter registration since last year’s midterms, which has expanded the electorate ahead of the guaranteed-nail-biter 2020 presidential election.

According to AJC, more than 352,000 people signed up to vote in the last 11 months. Most of them automatically registered when they obtained a driver’s license.

The surge has boosted Georgia’s voter rolls to a record high of nearly 7.4 million, according to the Secretary of State’s office.

A Pew Research Center poll disclosed that many new voters are racial minorities under 30 and are likely to lean towards the Democratic party.

Next year’s elections will feature races for president, two U.S. senators and every seat in the General Assembly.
