There are still questions coming from the family of Anthony Hann Jr. The Valdosta State Prison inmate was the fourth person to die this year at the prison complex. Prison officials have reported that Hann was found unresponsive in his cell. However, family members and Hann’s finance say that they need more information.
What began as a law enforcement execution of a search warrant ended in shots being fired in Thomasville in the area of Magnolia and Fern. According to the police the call for help and report of shots having been fired brought assistance from more law enforcement officers and in the end suspect Herbert Gilbert age 37 was dead. Officials also report that officers had pursued Gilbert prior to the officer involved shooting incident.
In an update on the inactive mobile meth lab found on the parking lot of the Perimeter Road Wal Mart store the persons arrested have been identified as Kevin Edwards and Teri Edwards of North Charleston, South Carolina. It was also discovered by local authorities that the vehicle that they traveled in was stolen. Both parties now face multiple charges including felonies. Lowndes County Narcotics and the Valdosta Fire Department then arrived to help decontaminate both people and the vehicle.
When the report of a former Tift County pre-school teacher went public in 2016 it got national attention. Armelia Stripling was spotted on surveillance video allegedly placing her knee into the back of one of the students. Stripling turned herself in to the authorities and she was released from jail on a bond of $15,000. Now, as the result of more research being gathered Sarah Patterson whose son was three years old at the time of the incident, and her attorney Dustin Land are suing Stripling. Patterson has started an organization for change titled Change.org that is calling for signatures on a petition to have Stripling brought before a grand jury as her case is ongoing.
Valdosta Police Department officials have identified the victim of a fatal Smith Avenue single vehicle crash as Willie Lee McKeithen age 71. He was found unresponsive and transported to SGMC where he was pronounced dead.
A roll-back in the county millage rate was approved by the Lowndes County Board of Education. The millage rate is slightly changed from 16.911 mills to 16.839 mills. Though there is a reduction in the millage rate the county school system’s revenue will increase due to an increase in property values.
