Mayor John Gayle and members of the Valdosta City Council will meet I regular session at 5:30 p.m. in council chambers at City Hall. The meeting is open to the public. On the agenda are various bids, an ordinance involving the city’s Cash Bond Schedule, the Fiscal Year 2018 Budget and the Employee of the Month.


The City of Valdosta will welcome approximately 136 youth and adult volunteers from Group Cares non-profit ministry partner of Group Publishing. These volunteers will travel from around the country to spend June 25-July 1 serving the citizens of Valdosta through the labor of love event known as the Southern Hospitality Workcamp.
The 2017 workcamp marks the 11th year the city has hosted this event, which brings in youth to perform basic home repairs, painting and minor construction, at no cost to local elderly or disabled homeowners. The “campers” will arrive on Sunday, June 25, to get situated in their temporary living quarters at Valdosta Middle School. A presentation of the 2017 Workcamp accomplishments will be presented at the Aug. 10City Council meeting. For more information, contact Public Information Officer Sementha Mathews at 229-259-3548.


In accordance with its Appointment Policy and to make the public aware of these volunteer opportunities to serve their community, the city announces the following:

Valdosta Housing Board of Adjustments & Appeal—Five Appointments

Valdosta-Lowndes County Construction Board of Adjustments & Appeals—Two Appointments (Note: Applicants must have construction experience, and one of these appointments must be a general contractor.)

All required forms, which may also be conveniently downloaded or completed online at the city’s website, should be submitted to the City Clerk by 5 p.m., on Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2017. Mayor and Council will make the appointments from the pool of qualified applicants at the Aug. 10 City Council meeting.
