The weekend accident that took place at the intersection of Cat Creek and Norman Hall Road claimed the life of Lowndes County Sheriff Michael Butler age 39. A tractor trailer driven by 29 year old Robbie register crossed the center line while attempting a turn, striking the deputy’s patrol vehicle as he responded to a domestic call. At last report charges were pending.
22 year old Moody Airman Sara Toy was killed in a vehicular accident that caused the driver of the car-29 year old Joshua Stephenson and another passenger 26 year old Abbott Dale to be airlifted to Archbold Hospital in Thomasville. Troopers with the Georgia State Patrol report that the vehicle was traveling on Coleman Road when the accident occurred.
A bill proposed by Representative Mandi Ballinger is supported by Georgia Coalition Against Domestic Violence. The proposal would allow victims of domestic violence to change their name for privacy and safety. The law requires that name changes be made public in court records. Many victims fear that their abusers will continue to trouble them unless the records of name changes related to domestic violence cases are sealed.
If the weather permits on Tuesday February 28th local resurfacing projects will get underway with funding from the State Department of Transportation Local Maintenance and Improvement Grant and SPLOST. The initiative involves just over 3 miles of city roadways, and some streets may be closed during the day, but they will re-open at the end of each working day.
