The Valdosta Board of Education unanimously approved the trip for the Valdosta Wildcats to appear in the GEICO State Champions Bowl Series. No tickets will be sold locally. Valdosta’s game against the Chandler Wolves from Arizona is now the early game which will kickoff at 6:00 pm EST on December 23.


This story out of Wakullah County, Florida…A middle school football coach took a knee during a huddle prayer befor a game and now, he finds himself at the center of a viral controversy. A parent of one of the students video taped Coach Eddie Metcalf during the prayer and a complaint was lodged by the Freedom from Religion Foundation on the grounds that the act was unconstitutional and it allegedes that Coach Metcalf was not only endorsing religion but promoting it while on the job. The coach was notified by the systems Superintendent, Robert Pearce, that the action must not take place again as it violates school policy. The next incident would bring disciplinary action.


There was a shooting incident at the Veterans Hospital in the Villages retirement community in Florida. The Ocala Star Banner reports that a man went into the outpatient center carrying a concealed weapon and once inside the examining room he opened fire. A staffer managed to stop the unidentified shooter from wounding anyone. The suspect was taken into custody and the FBI is investigating. There were 350 to 400 people inside the facility at the time of the shooting.


A growing effort by Georgia Democrats in the General Assembly is calling for some changes to be made in the way that congressional and legislative districts are drawn. The process of redistricting takes place every 10 years with shifts in populations being one of the major factors. Lawmakers from the party in power tend to redistrict in such a way that their incumbents get re-elected and opposing parties often lose.
