
The perils of Dawson, Georgia Mayor Christopher Wright continue to mount now that he has been cited for impersonating an officer of the law. While traveling through Albany complaints were lodged against Wright alleging that he used blue emergency lights and flashed them at another driver. When police searched the Mayor’s vehicle they found the lights even though he denied using them. Wright also faces an indictment on child sex charges that involve a girl who was 12 years old at the time of the incident.
It’s almost time for the 21st Annual Barbecue Cook-off competition hosted by the 100 Black Men of Valdosta. The event serves as one of the principal fund raisers for the organization that provides scholarships, mentoring and educational programs for students in the community. The cook-off takes place at the historic Lowndes County Courthouse in downtown Valdosta starting Friday at noon and lasting until 9pm. It re-starts Saturday morning at 9am continuing until 6pm. Cash prizes and trophies will be presented to the first, second and third place winners of the barbeque cook-off.
The leadership in the city of Hahira says that they do not expect any increase in the current millage rate of 4.75 mills. Assessments on properties decreased causing a loss in anticipated tax collections. Many property owners appealed to the tax commissioner for relief and it was granted.
