
In a sweeping round-up of suspects, Bainbridge law enforcement officials along with troopers from the Georgia State Patrol and the Department of Community Supervision enacted raids and drug busts. The result was the arrests of 20 persons and the search goes on for many more. Operation Crackdown continues.
Geographic changes in operations for the Tifton Fire Department are now in place after the city and county split responsibilites with each establishing its own boundaries. The city firefighters will now respond to an area of nine square miles but the former combined city and county operation covered an area of over 270. The number of city firefighters has been reduced but officials say that morale among the ranks is high.
Two teenagers were found dead behind a Roswell, Georgia Publix grocery store and law enforcement officials are calling their deaths a double homicide. 17 year old Natalie Henderson and Carter Davis age 17 were found dead from what investigators say was blunt force trauma.
The AT&T USA National Diving Championships competition continues in Moultrie at Moss Farms Diving. Participants and supporters have come from around the nation and businesses along with on site vendors are benefiting from the additional patronage. The event runs through August 14th.
A Lowndes County Grand Jury has indicted Robert Emmanuel Gamble on multiple charges including kidnapping, home invasion and murder. The April incident took place in the 1800 block of West Hill Avenue involving Gamble and two females, one of whom was pronounced dead at the scene from stab wounds. The other victim was treated and released at a local hospital.
Reames and Son Construction Co. Inc. of Valdosta has started work on the outside (right) shoulder at entrance and exit ramps on Interstate 75 South. The contractor will resurface 18.8 miles of the roadway and off- and on-ramps in Tift County and ending in Turner County. The cost of the project is $19.8 million. This is the first major resurfacing of this section of I-75 since 2001. Work is scheduled to be finished Jan. 31, 2017.
