As many as 20 jobs will impacted by the closing of the Patten Seed and Sod Company in Lakeland. The headquarters and administrative offices will remain in operation, but the production facility will close.
There will be no indictment of 62 year old Kyle Harrison in the vehicular death of William Kent age 60. The Highway 133 crash occurred while Harrison drove in the wrong lane of traffic last February. Harrison and 89 year old Sallie Harrison were treated at a hospital and released. Members of the Colquitt County Grand Jury reported that they did not find sufficient evidence to indict.
The City Manager in Tifton has resigned his post. Larry Ringer has served the city for more than 15 years. No details on the reason for his resignation have been given. Jessica Jones-the City Clerk has been appointed Acting City manager until an interim is found. A search for a new manager for Tifton begins next week.
Kentavious Deonte Jarmarquisus Primus, Anitonia Morris, Jefftavious Wilson, and Tyler S. Kelly, all of Sparta will face felony charges in connection with a Milledgeville home invasion. Their robbery attempt was cut short when an armed man spotted them and fired his weapon at the intruders. The victim had earlier been beaten by the home invaders, but in the latest incident no injuries were reported. The suspects were jailed for felony possession of marijuana and other violations. David Hester of Milledgeville, was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
David Rogerson of Thomasville will face charges involving the sale of methamphetamine. Officers confiscated meth and cash; thy also seized Rogerson’s vehicles. Distribution charges have been filed against him.
