MADISON COUNTY, Fla. (WCTV Eyewitness News) — Several law enforcement agencies are investigating after a body was found alongside a local highway.
The Florida Highway Patrol has identified the woman as Destiny S. Newsome Darshae, 23, of Valdosta.
Darshae’s body was found Thursday morning along US Hwy 19 near County Road 150 in Madison County, near the Taylor County line.
FHP told WCTV that road maintenance workers found her body. They also say tall grass kept it from plain view and that it had been there for at least two weeks.
Debris and tire marks at the scene show that she may have been involved in a traffic crash.
We spoke with people who’ve lived in the area for decades, they tell us it’s hard to believe this happened so close to home.
Looking down towards the scene from her home, Pearl Simmons said, “I don’t know how to explain something like that happen because, that’s the first time anything ever happened like that you know that close by.”
Linda Shelly also lives just down the road from the scene. “My neighbor down the road the one that lives in that house right there he called me and told me about it. It’s scary but you know this day and age, “she said.
