The body of 2 year old Lane Graves was recovered yesterday by law enforcement officials in orange County, Florida. The child had waded into waters at one of the Disney resorts and was attacked by an alligator. He and his parents Matt and Melissa Graves were visiting from Elkhorn, Nebraska.
Protecting the environment from coal ash is at the top of an initiative by Georgia Power to clean up the toxic material at its coal-fired power plants. There are 29 coal ash ponds, all the coal-ash will be removed; 16 of these ponds are near waterways.
Construction continues on the new Veterans Administration clinic that will open in Tifton. Officials say that the facility will serve almost 5,000 veterans. An information fair is scheduled for June 18th from 8 a.m. until 12 noon at the Rogers Senior Center. The services will include primary care, mental health and other healthcare services.
Five people were taken into custody following a major brawl took place in a public park in Ashburn. Officials say that the incident was gang related. According to police a young man attempted to get back a stolen cell phone the fight began. Lorenzo Bolden and his 13 year old brother Chris Carter were attacked by five men: Decovian Brown, Telvin Yancey, Trentavious Pritchett, Furdale Jackson and Xavier Brown. All five face gand related charges.
Persons using the services of the Shuttle Buses in Valdosta will be able to continue to take advantage of pilot program transit system through September. The program was scheduled to end on June 30th. There will be a Transit Implementation Study Open House from 12 p.m. to 7p.m. on Tuesday, June 28 at the Lowndes County Judicial and Administrative Complex, 327 N. Ashley Street.
Domestic violence has become problematic for the Colquitt County Sheriff’s department; recent incidents that caused one deputy with the department to resign and another to be suspended; both involve alleged domestic violence. Michael Morris has been suspended without pay as officials await the results of an investigation; Morris was arrested Sunday. The deputy that has resigned from the sheriff’s department is identified as Evan Garlick. His arrest came two weeks ago.
